Lesson 6 Assignment

Respond to the images on p. 118 of Writing Arguments by telling what the argument of each one is.
On p. 118 of Writing Arguments there are two pictures of John Walker Lindh, the "American Taliban". Lindh was captured in Afghanistan by American military forces after the US invasion of Afghanistan which was a result of the terrorist attacks on September 11 2001. The first picture show Lindh in the standard prisoner mug shot. His blank stare shows no emotion. You would not know that he was a captured terrorist unless you read the description of the picture. The second picture shows Lindh when he was he was captured over in Afghanistan by the military. Many people might have sympathy for him as they see him all bound up and possibly tortured.

Thesis: Photographs invoke an emotional reaction by those who view them, depending on the context of the photograph the reaction can be totally different.

How do the images on p. 118 relate to current events?
The images on p. 118 of Writing Arguments relate to current events because of America's ongoing War on Terror.
